I spotted the new Cadillac XT5 completely undisguised today in SoHo. It looked like Cadillac was doing a photoshoot for the new crossover.

No shit, nice leak.

Good catch. Caddy really NEEDS this. I can see it being very popular.
Going by the #of lugs I wonder if it has the same platform. (Not that the target market particularly cares)

Real SUV

Not bad! It still appears to be FWD based though.

Eh. Not bad, for a crossover, I guess.

Is this the SRX replacement? Either way, you’re probably the first person to post these photos, great job.

interesting juxtaposition, no?

Wow, I almost went to SoHo. I wouldn’t have walked here, but still.

Same basic proportions, same hubs, yeah definitely still the Theta Premium platform.
Although rumor has it that the production is moving to US or Canada from Mexico while the Equinox is moving to Mexico.

I feel bored by this. Excited by the Cruze. I feel like that could be a little back asswards. Also, I hope the interior is fantastic because the exterior tends to make me want to yawn.

Nice find!
IMHO, it’s better, but still looks a lot like the SRX. Almost like a heavy facelift, with the latest Caddy front end grafted on. It doesn't really work.
The proportions of the SRX (FWD, tall hood, rounded front end, obscenely ligh beltlines, huge rump) never appealed to me. I was hoping for a more substantial redesign. Something that doesn’t look so... pudgy.

It’s a bit annoying in the Equinox as you can’t see behind particularly well..
![]() 06/25/2015 at 20:43 |

Or, perhaps it’s based on the D2UX version of the Delta platform that the next generation Equinox/Terrain is supposed to move to, and that the new Buick Envision is on?

This diving line from the taillights is nice. Familial resemblence in the forward-pointing taillights is poorly done.

I hate when car designers do this. They start a shoulder line, end it in the middle of the door, then star another. Just use the same damn line. Hyundai is also guilty.

why make this fake window? Just keep the strong wide line of the D pilar and dont pretend the window wraps around. It doesnt look good and it doesnt improve visibility

A Lincoln that actually looks better than its Cadillac Contemporary.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 00:27 |

The first gen SRX, I would think. Unfortuunately, it was the one time the SRX was RWD by default. Iroincially teh XT5 is actually conceptually closer to the Gen2 SRX than the Gen2, being basically a jacked up Station wagon.
The second gen SRX is not bad, at all. This is FWD by deafult and I was really hoping GM would have made the Gen3 SRX CT5 RWD. It’s always been a nice looking vehicle if not the high achiever we were all hoping Cadillac would attend to being.
The XT5 looks promising. But I’m definately not thrilled with its less than luxury car drivetrain and more than inelegant overall deign. I don’t know who told them the ELR was a style-setter, but its not. They need to lean toward the Ceil and the El Miraj.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 00:28 |

I want you all to stop and think very calmly about this:
ELR and not in a good way.

Theres so much right and wrong with this update. Its like they had a solid design and then got super drunk before handing in the final draft.

I don’t love it, but I bet this thing will sell with ease. I actually see quite a few new SRXs on the road, despite being the oldest car in their lineup. It’s a vehicle worth being brought up to speed with the rest of the brand.

Heh. And jaded New Yorkers are like, “whatever” and walk on by, as if its a late model Camry parked there.
And way to make us all proud, saw930, you scooped the entire automotive press with this one:

1st search item on Google for “Cadillac XT5”.

Nice!
Interesting how the design has evolved. The family look, at least to me, doesn’t look bad on this crossover.

now that’s an ugly rear end...

That point draws a direct line to the swoop which is reminiscent of the old tail fins. I love it. Nicely played.

The current BMW X5 also does this.

Another home run for Cadillac, keep them coming.

Can easily unsee. The Caddy looks loads better.

I thought this was supposed to be SWB Chi, the replacement for Theta, to be shared with the next Enclave on LWB?
![]() 06/26/2015 at 08:32 |

I don’t like the grill placement, the massive empty space on the bumper and side skirts/trim make it look enormous and obese...
![]() 06/26/2015 at 08:47 |
|
Overall, I really like it. A lot more premium that the current SRX.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 08:47 |
|
My first thought at the front was ‘Chevy.’ I know this is the Caddy shape and does not have all 18 stacked grilles which is the Chevrolet design theme right now, but it looks lower market than I think it’s supposed to. At least in photos.

I knew I should have taken pictures yesterday. I walked right trough the set after they watered down the Grand St/Mercer for the commercial. But I was late for work...

![]() 06/26/2015 at 09:25 |

WOW.
Nice work.
And I’m so glad, the SRX has been a bubble in a line up of hard edged/angled vehicles. It just doesnt fit.
The original SRX still fits Caddy’s design language better than the current one does.

What an adorable baby Escalade.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 09:33 |
|
Its going to be about the same size as a GMC Acadia or Chevy Traverse
![]() 06/26/2015 at 09:36 |
|
Too much front overhang, too little rear overhang. Everyone lined up to pick up their kids at the Montessori Country Day School will know you bought the small, [relatively] cheap one. If it had been proportioned more like the Escalade you could fool most of the people into thinking it was a $90k truck.
Better looking than the Lexus RX, not quite as attractive as the Q5 and its copycat the MK-whatever.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 09:38 |
|
They really phoned in the design here. They could have done so much more with this section. The rear 3rd in this shot just kind of gives up. Bummer. Otherwise, a thankful replacement for the outgoing SRX. Good eye saw930!
![]() 06/26/2015 at 10:37 |
|
Yes, I always forget about the second gen SRX. I was meaning the first gen I guess. I am right there with you on the ELR style idea. Your whole line of cars do NOT need to all look the same (looking at you BMW) Having different modles allows you to make different cars, not just different shapes of the same car.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 10:40 |

It doesn't at all look that big based off these pics.. I work in a dealer group and from my VW office I can see our GMC stores Acadias. It looks about the same size as the out going SRX.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 11:20 |

I’ll reserve judgment until, well for one, I see it in person, but for two, until I see it in some other colors. I think this black paint is hiding a lot of the lines and trim, especially the back part here that appears to have some large black trim on the rear pillar.

This vent is straight out of the new Chevrolet design book (take a look at the same vents on the Cruze pictures from yesterday). Overall this is a very nice and coherent look, but you can’t start polishing Cadillac’s design language while you develop Chevy’s in the exact same way . The shape of the grille is also the same as the Chevrolet grille to the point that after the next redesign of the Equinox I have little confidence those two won’t look the same but for the upper headlight design of the XT5.
Observing this is an interesting feeling - like watching a train wreck in slow motion and predicting exactly how the cars are going to roll off the rails. I hope I’m wrong.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 12:18 |

I’ll take the Cadillac.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 12:19 |

I’m fairly certain XT5 will debut Chi. (I *think* it’s a mixture of Delta and Theta, but don’t quote me on that)

Not bad.

But it is a handsome CUV.
